Reach out and grasp again
in your own everyday life

For patients & families

What GRASPAGAIN is meant to do for you

Grasp, hold, release

GRASPAGAIN is meant to support you with everyday grips, such as holding a cup or a toothbrush.

Control it the way you used to

You actively attempt the movement. GRASPAGAIN detects your muscle signals and moves your hand with you.

Made for home

GRASPAGAIN is being developed as a medical aid for daily life. Its intended use extends beyond therapy in the clinic.

Supported from the start

Your physician, the medical supplier and our team support you from prescription and fitting to daily use.

Provision pathway

How provision is planned to work

This is how it is planned to work once GRASPAGAIN is available. We and our partners support you at every step.

01

Medical prescription

A physician assesses suitability and prescribes GRASPAGAIN as a medical aid for daily life.

02

Fitting at a medical supplier

A partner medical supplier (Sanitätshaus) assembles GRASPAGAIN from our components and fits it individually.

03

Apply for cost coverage

With the prescription and a cost estimate, cost coverage is applied for individually with the health insurer.

04

Training & daily use

After training, GRASPAGAIN is used at home. The medical supplier and our team support follow-up care.

Study

Take part in the study

We are continuously testing GRASPAGAIN with people affected at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg. The study is ethics-approved and consists of three sessions.

01

Measurement

Using sensors on the skin, we measure the remaining muscle activity in your forearm.

02

Training

You first practise the control virtually and then try the orthosis.

03

Everyday use

You use GRASPAGAIN with everyday objects, accompanied by standardised tests.

People aged 18 to 75 with a paralysed hand, for example after a stroke or spinal cord injury, who can travel to Erlangen for the sessions can take part.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions from people affected

Not yet. GRASPAGAIN is under development. Provision is initially planned as a custom-made device. But you can get in touch now: we will let you know as soon as provision is possible and check whether taking part in our study is right for you.

What matters is whether muscle activity can still be measured in your forearm, even if you cannot move your hand visibly. We find this out with a short measurement. GRASPAGAIN is being developed primarily for people after a stroke, with a spinal cord injury or after a traumatic brain injury.

You try to move your hand the way you used to. Sensors on the skin measure the muscle signals in your forearm, the software recognises whether you want to grasp, hold or release, and the motor moves your fingers along. Just thinking about the movement is not enough. You actively take part in it.

Provision is planned as a medical aid on prescription. Cost coverage is then applied for individually with the health insurer. The medical supplier and we will support you. We cannot make any commitment today.

If you are between 18 and 75, have a paralysed hand and can travel to Erlangen for three sessions, get in touch via the contact form. We will then arrange a first online meeting.
