Shaping the future together

From research at FAU

Understanding biosignals. Enabling movement

Research team discussion during an experiment with the neuroorthosis

GRASPAGAIN combines research into neuromuscular signals with AI-based movement decoding and the development of a motorised hand orthosis. At FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg’s n-squared lab, we bring these areas of expertise together in one system.

Scientific publications, muscle signal recordings and testing the orthosis with participants form our foundation. Our science page brings together the research, current study progress and research funding. Explore how your own project could build on this work.

Collaboration

What questions can we explore together?

We welcome new perspectives from research institutes, universities and clinical teams. Possible areas for collaboration include:

New sensing approaches

Which alternative sensors and input signals could control the orthosis? Together, we can investigate new approaches to capturing and translating movement intention.

Production methods and supply chain

How can orthosis components be customised and manufactured efficiently? We welcome research into production methods and the supply chain through to distribution.

Application and evaluation

How can the orthosis be evaluated in your own experimental setup? Which functional endpoints and user experiences are relevant?

Research

GRASPAGAIN for your research project

For your research project, we can also provide the orthosis without our neural interface. It can be used independently of the type of input signal, allowing you to investigate your own sensing and control approaches. We will agree on technical integration, scope and timing together.

01

Share your research question

Tell us about your institution, scientific question and proposed timeline. Early project ideas are welcome too.

02

Discuss your setup

Together, we establish which components you need, the technical requirements and the support that would be useful.

03

Prepare the collaboration

We agree on provision of the system, responsibilities and the handling of data and results. For studies involving people, we discuss the necessary prerequisites.

FAQ

Research collaboration questions

We want to make GRASPAGAIN available for suitable research projects during development. Get in touch with your project idea. Together, we will assess technical suitability, availability and the conditions for provision.

We welcome joint studies, methodological development and independent investigations using the system. We agree on our involvement, support and the use of data and results to suit the project.

Tell us your institution, research question, proposed experimental setup and preferred timeline. If known, include the intended participants and your technical requirements.

Your next step

Let’s take your research question further

From an early idea to a detailed study concept. We look forward to exploring new possibilities for the neuroorthosis together.
